Whitney Houston was remembered in an emotional tribute at last weekend’s BET Awards. The late singer was honoured by Monica, Brandy, Chaka Khan, Mariah Carey and her mother, Cissy Houston.

Mariah opened the tribute, talking about Whitney’s talent and joked about the alleged feud the media often wrote about. Mariah said she was “captivated by the power in her range, the richness of her tone and her unique ability to wrap a lyric in emotional.”

Monica took the stage to sing “I Love the Lord,” which Brandy followed by singing “I’m Your Baby Tonight and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.” Whitney’s brother Gary then honoured his sister by singing “Where You Are.”

Cissy performed her own version of “Bridge Over Troubled Water” for her daughter. “This is for you, Nip,” she said. Chaka Khan closed out the tribute with “I’m Every Woman.”

The tribute also included words from Whitney’s Waiting to Exhale co-stars, Lela Rochon, Loretta Devine and Angela Bassett.
