Vegetables 300x177 Want Healthy Hair? Supercharge Your Diet

When it comes to healthy, shiny hair, what you put into your body is as important as what you put in your hair.  One of the benefits of a balanced diet is strong hair. So if you’re looking for some of the best foods to help keep your hair and body healthy, follow these healthy food tips.

Greens – Green vegetables such as spinach, kale, Swiss chard, and broccoli contain folate and iron which are essential to maintaining strong, healthy hair. Don’t like green food? Drink them instead. Combine them with some milk, water or orange juice and add fruits liberally for taste.

Blueberries – Not only a great antioxidant, but also loaded with vitamin C for circulation to the scalp  and support to the blood vessels that feed the follicles.

Eggs – A great source of four key minerals: zinc, selenium, sulfur and iron. Iron helps cells carry oxygen to the hair follicles, and too little iron (anemia) is a major cause of hair loss. Zinc helps to regulate hormones that can have a direct effect on your hair’s growth rate and thickness.

Fish – If you’re skipping eggs, fish are equally useful for preventing hair loss. Salmon and mackerel also contain fatty acids, such as omega 3 which are essential elements in hair growth.

Poultry – If you don’t eat dairy or are a pescetarian, chicken and turkey are sources of iron and protein.

Whole grains – For the vegetarians and dairy averse, get your zinc, B vitamins and iron from whole grains. Ditch the white bread and pastries in favour of brown bread and bagels. Nuts are also a great source of zinc.

Beans – These important superfoods are not only rich in iron, zinc and protein, but also contain high levels of biotin, which can help strengthen hair and nails.

Water – The all-around best moisturizer with zero calories and nature’s purest form of goodness your hair needs to grow and thrive.
